What You Need To Know About Praxis I

Whichever subject you intend to teach, you'll find that passing the Praxis I test will require you to make use of two sets of skills: recalling the knowledge that you possess; and answering exam questions quickly and accurately.

Both of these skill sets are vitally important. A good Praxis I study guide can help you develop these skills.

What is the Praxis I?

The Praxis is a series of tests that you will need to take as you progress towards your goal of becoming a certified teacher. Praxis I, the first of the three, measures basic reading, writing and mathematics skills, and is often taken while the student is still at college.

Time management and the process of elimination will be important elements in getting the score you need to pass the Praxis and become a teacher.

Two Types of Questions, Two Types of Challenges

Praxis I questions may come in two forms: Multiple-choice questions ask you to choose the best answer from five options. In these questions, it is important to remember that the best answer isn't necessarily the only correct answer. You may find that two answers look correct; one answer will be more correct than the other. (This also means that when two answers look the same, you've got a 50/50 chance of guessing the right one.)

You will also be asked to produce a written essay. To score high on this part of the Praxis I test, organization is key. You can prepare a structure in advance, saving you time in the exam and use a basic plan to create a well-argued essay. Some serious Praxis I test preparation is going to be required.
